A FEW weeks ago, Ralph Nader rang. Now, if you supported Al Gore and are still furious about Mr. Nader's role in the 2000 presidential election, the mere mention of his name may make you boil. Well, boil somewhere else. This, if you need a reminder, is not a column about politics. It's about consumer justice, and it is hard to think of anyone who...
IMAGINE that Warren Buffett, profoundly moved by a visit to the disaster zone created by Hurricane Katrina, summons 16 aging, very wealthy friends to an exclusive Hawaiian hotel. The group includes George Soros, Ted Turner, Bill Cosby, Paul Newman, Barry Diller, Ross Perot and Bill Gates Sr., as well as one woman, Yoko Ono. At Mr. Buffett's behest,...
Ed Rendell can't believe that he's being asked about the fact that he said that Barack Obama's nominee for head of homeland security, Janet Napolitano, has ''no life.'' ''We're facing the greatest crisis since the Depression, and you want to talk about this?'' he complained. This is exactly the kind of comment people used to make during the bad old...
